The UEFA Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan drew high viewership numbers across various broadcasters in Europe and the United States.
CBS announced that its coverage of the 2022-23 season was the most-watched ever on its English-language channel, with an average viewership of 967,000 per game day, while Paramount+ recorded its most streamed Champions League season ever. The final's peak audience hit 2.6 million viewers on Paramount+, making it the most-streamed football game yet.
In Italy, Mediaset’s free-to-air (FTA) channel Canale 5 was able to amass a considerable number of viewers during the UCL showpiece. The broadcasting company had a daily average audience of about 8.9 million people during the event, scoring a notable 45.6% audience share.
In France, TF1 garnered over 3.4 million people who tuned in to watch Manchester City take home this year's title, while German public broadcaster ZDF saw an average audience of about 5.56 million audiences watching from home.
While Inter's presence resulted in improved Italian ratings as compared to last year, both French and German broadcasters experienced significantly fewer viewer numbers than Real Madrid’s victory last year, producing at least 2-5% lower than figures seen previously on similar occasions.
Even CBS experienced a year-on-year decline of around 21%, while BT Sport has yet to make its official data public.
CBS signed onto UEFA rights until at least 2030, securing an unprecedented long-term deal, with further plans towards expanding their sports coverage within soccer. Thanks to new channels such as Sports Golazo Network, CBS now caters directly to football fans looking for more comprehensive analysis after games or other information relating to upcoming matches.
