SuperSport, in collaboration with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has secured the broadcasting rights for the upcoming 2025 African Schools Football Championships. The tournament is set to take place in Ghana from Wednesday, 23rd to Saturday, 26th April.
The event will be graced by former Banyana Captain and SuperSport Analyst, Amanda Dlamini, who joins as one of the ambassadors and mentors. Other notable figures include Abedi Pele (Ghana), Robert Kadiaba (DRC), Kareem Haggui (Tunisia), Adjoa Bayor (Ghana) and Clementine Toure (Cote d'Ivoire).
Now in its third edition, the African Schools Football Championships aims to establish itself as a sustainable and competitive school football competition across Africa. According to SuperSport, this tournament goes beyond just football; it includes other programmes such as the Young Reporter Programme and Young Referee Programme.
Additional support pillars
In addition to these programmes, there will be support pillars aimed at increasing football's social impact while building participating countries' capacity to manage football through training programmes. CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe along with other dignitaries are expected at this year's finals. Interestingly enough, this championship is a brainchild of Dr Motsepe himself.
Since its inception, an impressive number of approximately 880 000 kids from 46 different African countries have participated in this tournament. These numbers are predicted to increase over time according to SuperSport. Following finalisation of their agreement with CAF, SuperSport announced that games would be broadcast on multiple platforms including SuperSport on DStv, the SuperSport Schools App and SABC+ (Plus) App.
The African Schools Football Championships is not just a tournament; it's a platform that fosters talent, promotes sportsmanship and builds capacity. With SuperSport now broadcasting this event, fans can look forward to experiencing all the action from their living rooms.
