In a significant development, Mason Greenwood has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Serie A club, Roma. The 24-year-old forward is expected to leave his current club Marseille during the ongoing transfer window after an impressive two-season stint in France. Greenwood's move to the Stadio Olimpico comes as he expresses keen interest in joining Gian Piero Gasperini's team, which is preparing for a return to the Champions League.
Roma has been engaged in extensive discussions with Greenwood's representatives over recent weeks and have now established a framework for a long-term contract. The proposed deal includes an initial salary exceeding €4 million per season, along with bonuses and future increases built into the agreement.
However, while personal terms are close to being finalized, Roma still faces considerable challenges in negotiations with Marseille. The Ligue 1 club is reportedly demanding €55 million for their star attacker.
Initial offer from Roma
Despite Marseille’s hefty demand, it is anticipated that Roma will begin formal discussions by offering around €40m - a figure unlikely to satisfy Marseille. However, confidence within the Italian club continues growing due largely to Greenwood's willingness to make this move.
The forward has already begun preparations for his departure from France after concluding his time at Marseille where he was one of their standout performers since arriving from Manchester United. With 48 goals scored across all competitions in just 81 appearances, he established himself as one of France’s most productive attackers. His exceptional form inevitably attracted attention from clubs across Europe including Turkish giants Fenerbahce who were heavily linked earlier this summer alongside several other clubs monitoring his situation closely.
However, it appears that Roma have emerged as front-runners having made significant progress in discussions with the player. The Friedkin ownership group at Roma is reportedly eager to strengthen the squad following their qualification for the Champions League and views Greenwood as a marquee addition. Gasperini, Roma's coach, is also believed to be keen on adding greater quality and creativity in the final third as Roma look to compete domestically and in Europe next season. This move could potentially mark a new chapter in Greenwood's career while significantly boosting Roma's attacking prowess.
