24-hour gambling live streaming service will be available on Prime Video and Freevee platforms going forward
Fans of sportsbook software will be thrilled to learn that popular sports betting channel SportsGrid is now coming to Amazon Prime Video. In a new deal between the two, the 24-hour streaming service will be present on regular Prime Video, as well as Amazon's Freevee platform.
Amazon, which has plans to launch its own dedicated sports app, will become the latest streaming service to host SportsGrid, with the channel already available on YouTube TV, FuboTV, Sling and Roku, among others.
SportsGrid will operate on Prime Video as a FAST (free ad-supported streaming) channel and join an already huge collection of free channels present on the Freevee platform. Freevee, as the name suggests, is a free Amazon platform supported by ad revenue.
For those unfamiliar with SportsGrid, it is a network which airs live pre-game and in-play sports betting programming across the growing list of platforms where it is distributed, and works alongside such gambling giants as BetMGM and FanDuel.
SportsGrid President and Co-Founder, Louis Maione, said of the deal:
“It is an exciting day for the SportsGrid executive team to partner with Amazon Freevee and Prime Video services offering their millions of users access to the best destination source for sports betting news, real-time data, and expert commentary. We look forward to the Amazon partnership to innovate and develop new tools to engage and redefine the sports viewers betting experience.”
This is the latest move in a series of developments which see Amazon move further and further into the sports live streaming sphere. Perhaps the most noteworthy of these has been the company's 11-year deal to provide coverage of NFL Thursday Night Football to its American audience.
On top of that, Amazon Prime Video can boast holding limited domesic broadcast rights to the Premier League in the UK and rights to the NBA in Brazil, alongside several other key sports rights in various markets.
Aside from live streaming sporting events, Prime Video is also investing more and more in the production of its own original sports content including chat shows, documentaries and more, as the giant sees online sports coverage as a major part of its future offering.
This agreement with SportsGrid can be seen as somewhat of an experiment for Amazon Prime Video as it tests the sustainability of FAST channels on its network and the appetite among its subscriber base for gambling and betting related content.
If this partnership proves to be a success, we could see SportsGrid integrated into the much anticipated standalone sports app which Amazon is said to be working on and hoping to release in the near future.
