The Seven Networks have secured the rights to broadcast this year's final of the World Test Championship between Australia and India in Australia. The network has not broadcast a test outside the shores of Australia since 2001, so this deal represents a huge boost for the Seven network's portfolio.
The Australian free-to-air broadcaster will air the WTC final on both of its linear channels as well as on the 7plus streaming service. The final is scheduled to take place from June 7 to June 11 at Oval Stadium, London.
Speaking on this deal, Lewis Martin, head of network sport for Seven, said:
“The showdown between Australia and India will be one of the great moments in international sport this year and we are honored to be partnering with the ICC to bring all the action to Australians, live, free and exclusive on Seven and 7plus."
ICC's chief commercial officer, Anurag Dahiya also added:
“We are delighted to partner with the Seven Network to bring the ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 to our fans in Australia. The second edition of the ultimate test is set to be a momentous occasion, and we can’t wait to see who will be crowned the new world champion.”
Seven Networks are also in the race for ICC's upcoming media tender
The International Cricket Council has still not been able to sell its broadcasting rights package for the upcoming 50-over World and T20 World tournaments in Australia, and Seven networks have emerged as one of the top contenders in the bidding process.
Their portfolio has recently been strengthened by the renewal of domestic rights to Australian home games and domestic cricket until 2031, which is a huge boost for the network.
Seven networks however are likely to face stiff competition from their archrivals Nine networks who will be showing the upcoming Ashes series following the conclusion of the World Test Championship final.
