Real Madrid and Spain legend, Sergio Ramos, is reportedly set for a move to the Premier League. The 39-year-old centre-back, currently playing for Mexican side Monterrey, has been a stalwart of the football world over the past two decades. Despite being in the twilight of his career, he still has much to offer on the pitch.
Ramos' performance remains impressive even at 39. Since joining Monterrey in February 2025, he has registered seven goals in 32 games. His contract with Monterrey is set to expire at the end of December 2025 which means he will be available for free come January 2026.
The Spanish defender announced that his final game for Monterrey was their Liga MX play-off semi-final defeat against Toluca on December 7th. Post-match comments suggested that this fixture was indeed his "last game" for the club and reports indicate that he may be favouring a return to Europe.
Manchester United's interest
According to Cadena SER reports relayed by Fichajes, Manchester United under Ruben Amorim’s management have offered Ramos an opportunity to join them at the start of 2026. However, there are still doubts about whether this deal will materialize.
Manchester United's interest in Ramos isn't new; they have shown interest on multiple occasions before - notably back in 2015 when they bid £28.6 million for him as reported by Sky Sports at that time.
Ramos himself confirmed this interest from United during an interview in 2023 but chose instead to remain with Real Madrid - a decision which proved fruitful as he went on adding three more Champions League winners’ medals to his already impressive trophy haul at Santiago Bernabeu.
What lies ahead?
While it remains uncertain where Ramos will land next year after leaving Monterrey, his potential move to the Premier League is sure to excite fans. His experience and leadership qualities could be a significant asset for any club.
Despite his age, Ramos' performance in Mexico has shown that he still has plenty to offer. Whether it's Manchester United or another Premier League club that secures his services, they will undoubtedly be gaining a player with an illustrious career and a wealth of experience at the highest level of football.
As sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts keep their eyes peeled on this development, one thing is certain - Sergio Ramos' journey in football is far from over.
