The Manchester United legend wants Pep Guardiola to be the next manager

Former Manchester United captain and Republic of Ireland star, Roy Keane, has made a bold suggestion to the English Football Association (FA). He believes that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola should be appointed as the next England manager. This comes in the wake of Gareth Southgate's departure from his managerial role.

Currently, England is under the interim management of Lee Carsley. During this international break, Carsley revealed that he has been asked to steer the ship until November when a new manager is expected to be appointed. The speculation about potential successors is rife if Carsley doesn't step into Southgate's shoes.

Among those being considered are United-linked Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Eddie Howe. These names have been circulating in football circles as potential candidates for taking over one of football’s most prestigious roles.

A dearth of options

Following England's Nations League triumph over Finland, Keane along with fellow pundit Ian Wright agreed on one thing - there was a dearth of options for filling up Southgate’s position. However, towards the end of their discussion, Keane threw another name into consideration - Pep Guardiola.

Manchester United legend, Roy Keane, said:

"Go after Pep, His contract is up in the summer. Go for the best."

Guardiola currently is Manchester City manager and has had an illustrious career in club management with successful stints at Barcelona and Bayern Munich before his move to England. His tactical acumen and ability to get the best out of his players have earned him plaudits worldwide making him an attractive option for any team looking for success.

Why Arsenal fans will love this?

Keane’s suggestion might bring joy not only to English fans but also Arsenal supporters who would love nothing more than seeing their rival team lose their successful manager. It would certainly add an interesting twist in Premier League dynamics if this were to happen.

While it remains uncertain who will take over from Gareth Southgate, the suggestion of Pep Guardiola by Roy Keane adds an intriguing possibility to the mix. Whether or not the FA will heed his advice is yet to be seen. However, one thing is certain - whoever takes over has big shoes to fill and a nation's expectations to meet.
