Recently, clubs like Fenerbahce, Bayer Leverkusen and Saudi Pro League teams have shown significant interest in Antony

Manchester United and Real Betis have reportedly agreed in principle for Antony, the Brazilian winger, to sign a season-long loan. This move comes after Antony's successful stint with Betis during the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

Antony had a remarkable return to form with Real Betis last season. He scored nine goals and provided five assists in 26 games for the La Liga club. His performance played a crucial role in leading Manuel Pellegrini’s side all the way to the final of the Europa Conference League, where they were ultimately defeated by Chelsea.

Despite his impressive resurgence in Spanish football, Manchester United’s hierarchy has made it clear that there is little chance of Antony resurrecting his Old Trafford career while Ruben Amorim remains at the helm.

Disappointing stint at Old Trafford

The Brazil international is considered by some as one of Manchester United’s worst signings ever. Since his high-profile £82 million transfer from Ajax in 2022, he has managed only five Premier League goals.

In recent weeks, several clubs including Fenerbahce, Bayer Leverkusen and teams from Saudi Pro League showed strong interest in signing him. However, Antony was keen on returning to Betis throughout this summer transfer window.

Permanent move?

According to Mike McGrath from The Telegraph, advanced discussions between Manchester United and Real Betis took place on Monday resulting in an agreement over a second loan for Antony.

There are expectations that this temporary deal could lead to a permanent move when it expires next year. Reports last week suggested that Fenerbahce was willing to meet United’s €45 million (£38.9m) asking price for him but their project failed to convince him.

Instead of working with Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce, Antony has chosen to push through a switch to Seville, eager to reunite with Pellegrini. This move could potentially mark the end of his disappointing stint at Old Trafford and the beginning of a new chapter in his football career.
