Manchester City forward, Omar Marmoush, is set to undergo an assessment following a knee injury he sustained while on international duty with Egypt. The incident occurred during his country's World Cup qualifier match against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old player was substituted in the ninth minute of the game which ended in a goalless draw. The injury happened after a robust challenge just four minutes into the match. Despite receiving immediate treatment on the field, Marmoush had to be replaced by Osama Faisal shortly afterwards.
Egyptian Football Association released statement:
"Omar Marmoush suffers a bruised knee ligament. The player will undergo an X-ray upon his arrival to Cairo [on] Wednesday morning."
Impact on Manchester City
Marmoush’s injury comes as a blow for Manchester City who signed him from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59m in January. Since joining, he has scored eight goals in 28 games for the club and has become an integral part of their attacking line-up.
Recently, he started City's last two top-flight matches - both defeats to Tottenham and Brighton - after coming off as a substitute during their 4-0 opening-weekend win at Wolves. His potential absence could affect team dynamics ahead of their upcoming derby against neighbours Manchester United at Etihad Stadium this Sunday (16:30 BST).
City’s medical staff will also examine Marmoush when he returns to England post his international duty stint with Egypt. As fans eagerly await updates about Marmoush’s condition, it remains uncertain whether or not he will be fit enough to participate in Sunday’s much-anticipated Manchester derby. His injury could potentially affect the team's performance and strategy, adding another layer of intrigue to this high-stakes match.
