In a significant shift in the sports broadcasting landscape, FOX Sports and Warner Bros. Discovery's TNT Sports and HBO Max have taken over the Mexican media rights for the English Premier League (EPL). This development follows the cancellation of a previous contract between EPL and Paramount+.

The top-tier soccer competition, English Premier League (EPL), will be broadcasted in Mexico by a combination of Fox Sports, TNT Sports, and HBO Max during the next cycle. The change comes after Paramount+'s agreement with EPL was terminated.

Fox is set to broadcast 50% of EPL fixtures during 2024-25 starting August 16. The remaining half will be covered by Warner Bros. Discovery-owned services - HBO Max and TNT Sports. This comprehensive deal extends through to the 2027-28 season.

From Sky Mexico to Paramount+

Before this new arrangement, Sky Mexico held exclusive rights to air EPL matches in Mexico. However, earlier this year in January 2022, a deal was struck with Paramount+ that extended across all Central America involving Pluto TV as well. GlobalData Sport had valued this agreement at $65 million per year.

Mexican players currently showcasing their skills in Premier League include Raul Jimenez at Fulham and Edson Álvarez at West Ham United who are likely to draw significant viewership from their home country.

FA Cup included

In addition to covering half of all Premier League fixtures each season under this new deal, HBO Max and TNT Sports will also broadcast matches from England's domestic FA Cup knockout competition for four consecutive campaigns.

The platform is expected to cover approximately 190 EPL fixtures per season along with an additional 40 games from the FA Cup tournament which adds even more value for football fans subscribing these platforms. The EPL's media rights have been a hot topic in the sports broadcasting industry. Recently, global sports streaming giant DAZN renewed its contracts in Spain and Portugal. In late July, Saran Media announced an exclusive agreement across various Eastern European and Central Asian territories – a deal that also included the FA Cup.

This new arrangement between Fox Sports, TNT Sports, HBO Max and the English Premier League marks a significant shift in Mexico's sports broadcasting landscape. It promises to bring more football action to fans while also potentially influencing future media rights deals within the industry.
