ITV's deal covers all three England group stage matches against Haiti, Venezuela, and Egypt

The United Kingdom is set to experience a new era in football broadcasting as ITV prepares to air the FIFA U17 World Cup 2025 matches. This marks the first time that this global football tournament will be broadcast on a free-to-air UK terrestrial broadcaster, breaking a 40-year tradition.

The biennial competition has been an exclusive event for paid channels for four decades. However, starting next month, it will be accessible to all football fans across the UK via ITV. This significant shift in broadcasting rights is expected to increase viewership and promote greater inclusivity among sports enthusiasts. Set to take place in Qatar, the FIFA U17 World Cup 2025 promises an exciting display of some of the world's best emerging talent up until age 17. The tournament has been instrumental over years in identifying and nurturing young talents who have gone on to make their mark on international football.

Germany currently holds the championship title after securing their first win at this level in 2023. Nigeria leads with five wins - making them historically successful at this tournament - while England has won once back in 2017.

Comprehensive coverage by ITV

ITV's deal includes comprehensive coverage of all three group stage matches involving England against Haiti, Venezuela and Egypt respectively. In addition, select fixtures from knockout stages will also be aired on ITV4 and ITVX platforms. While a full schedule is yet to be announced by ITV, fans can look forward to enjoying these matches without any subscription fees starting November 3rd until its conclusion on November 27th.

Niall Sloane, ITV Director of Sport, said:

“This deal marks the first time ITV has broadcast the FIFA U-17 World Cup and we are pleased to continue our relationship with FIFA ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup 2026,”

“The tournament will showcase the very best in young footballing talent and will highlight future superstars of the game.”

Founded initially as FIFA U16 World Championship back in 1985, it was later renamed as FIFA U17 World Cup six years later in1991. The tournament has since been a platform for young footballers to showcase their skills on a global stage, and with its new broadcasting arrangement, it is set to reach an even wider audience.

The FIFA U17 World Cup 2025's move to free-to-air broadcasting in the UK marks a significant milestone in sports broadcasting. This change not only makes the tournament more accessible but also provides an opportunity for more fans to witness the rise of future football stars. As we anticipate this exciting event, one thing is certain - November promises to be a thrilling month for all football fans across the UK.
