Emtek media group expected to face big battles for retention of rights

FIFA, the governing body of world soccer, has initiated the tender process for media rights in Indonesia for its next four World Cup tournaments. The rights cover both men's and women's editions of the prestigious tournament.

The media rights under consideration include: Men’s FIFA World Cup 2026 matches and 2030 Women’s FIFA World Cup (WWC) 2027 and 2031 Interested entities have until 10am Central European Time on May 21 to submit their bids. To participate, they should reach out to indonesia-media-rights@fifa.org for necessary documentation.

In the past, Indonesia football fans enjoyed coverage from a variety of channels. For instance, during Qatar's Men’s World Cup in 2022, Emtek media group provided broadcasts after purchasing rights from Infront sports marketing agency. However, coverage for WWC 2023 was exclusively available via FIFA+ streaming service.

New format makes upcoming competitions interesting prospect

The men's tournament is set to span across North America and Europe with Mexico, US and Canada hosting in 2026 while Spain, Portugal and Morocco are expected to host most games in 2030. The opening games will be held in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay as part of centenary celebrations.

As yet undisclosed are hosts for women’s tournaments scheduled for both years - these will be announced at the upcoming FIFA Congress on May 17th held at Bangkok, Thailand.

Indonesia has had limited participation so far with only one qualification (in1938) under Dutch East Indies banner but never qualified for women’s edition.

MNC Indonesian media group top runner for the World Cup

In December last year MNC Indonesian media group secured exclusive broadcast rights to UEFA European Championships national teams football tournament slated for year 2024.

This tender follows a similar process launched earlier this month covering rights to the next two men's World Cups in the UK. The deadline for submissions from UK broadcasters is April 29.

In March, FIFA initiated media rights tenders for the 2026 and 2030 tournaments in six European markets. French media company Groupe M6 secured exclusive free-to-air rights to air those two editions.

This tender process marks a significant step towards ensuring comprehensive coverage of FIFA's upcoming World Cup tournaments in Indonesia, providing fans with access to all the action.
