The over-the-top sports streaming service hopes to enhance the profile of women’s football

In an exciting development for women's soccer fans, streaming platform DAZN has announced its acquisition of ATA Football, a prominent leader in the coverage of women's soccer. This takeover means that DAZN will now have access to and provide coverage of all the leagues that ATA Football covers.

DAZN is no stranger to covering women's soccer, having previously provided coverage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League for international audiences.

Initially, these games were accessible free of charge to viewers. However, as the popularity of the competition grew steadily over time, DAZN made the decision to put these games behind its paywall.

ATA Football has played a crucial role as a sales agency for top women’s leagues in Europe. For instance, they sublicensed top women's divisions in France, Italy and Germany to CBS Sports when both companies entered into an agreement.

This collaboration allowed CBS and Paramount+ platforms to stream games from these highly competitive women's competitions.

Nevertheless, it is clear that DAZN intends to position itself as "The Home of Women’s Football." According to Shay Segev, CEO at DAZN Group - there is great potential for synergy between his platform and women's soccer; both can support each other in their respective growth journeys.

Sports Pro Media reported that viewership numbers during the 2022-23 season showed promising signs with regards to interest in the Women’s Champions League on DAZN, there was a 17% increase compared with previous seasons' figures!

These matches were streamed free of charge on YouTube which allowed them to reach more than 50 million viewers worldwide thanks largely to due absence of any viewing restrictions or limitations imposed by paid platforms like cable networks or OTT services providers (Over-The-Top).

This remarkable success did not go unnoticed by clubs either who directly experienced positive effects generated through increased fan engagement levels resulting from expanded accessibility offered via such open broadcasting arrangements facilitated by YouTube streams’ unrestricted nature.

Now, with DAZN taking over ATA Football, the opportunity to further expand this tremendous growth potential now extends to other top women's leagues in Europe.

These leagues can now leverage the international reach and extensive coverage provided by DAZN - a platform that is committed to amplifying the visibility of women's football across borders and communities.
