DAZN, the sports streaming service, has announced that it has acquired the rights to broadcast matches from the Saudi Pro League in six countries, including the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, and Canada.
The deal, which will span two years, was confirmed by the company on Wednesday.
Under the terms of the agreement, DAZN will broadcast three games from the Saudi league each week. Additionally, the service will provide coverage of all matches involving Al-Nassr, a club that has recently made significant strides in the football world.
Last year, Al-Nassr made headlines by signing Cristiano Ronaldo, and they followed up this year by recruiting Sadio Mane from Bayern Munich during the off-season.
DAZN's Chief Executive Officer, Shay Segev, said:
"The RSL (Roshn Saudi League) is rapidly developing into an international phenomenon, attracting some incredible talent that will only improve an already strong and vibrant competition,"
"It's a great opportunity for DAZN to deliver greater and deserved prominence for the RSL, its clubs and the Saudi game more generally, as well as adding even more quality content to our platform for our subscribers."
The Saudi Pro League has been steadily gaining prominence on the global stage, largely due to its successful recruitment of high-profile players from European leagues.
This includes the likes of Karim Benzema, the Ballon d'Or winner who recently left Real Madrid to join reigning champions Al-Ittihad.
The upcoming season of the Saudi Pro League has already begun and has received good viewership. The opening match saw Al-Ahli defeat Al-Hazm 3-1 thanks to an acrobatic hattrick from Roberto Firmino.
The Al-Ahli team boasts Champions League winners like Riyad Mahrez, Edouard Mendy, and Roberto Firmino.
This new deal with DAZN will ensure that football fans in the six aforementioned countries will be able to follow all the actions of the Saudi Pro League, further enhancing its international visibility and reputation.
