The Blues are reportedly now eyeing to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace

Chelsea Football Club, under the new guidance of Enzo Maresca, is reportedly considering a surprising move to re-sign central defender Marc Guehi. This news comes as the Blues prepare for their upcoming Premier League match against Bournemouth at The Vitality Stadium.

The Blues have had a mixed start to the new Premier League season, securing four points from their first three games. After suffering an opening weekend defeat against Manchester City, they bounced back with a victory over Wolves and subsequently drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace.

Targeting Palace's defender

Now it seems that Chelsea has set its sights on strengthening its defense by potentially bringing back former player Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. According to reports, this move would mark a sensational return for Guehi who spent several years in Chelsea’s youth system before being sold to Palace in 2021.

Guehi played only twice for Chelsea at senior level before his transfer. However, after two loan spells at Swansea City during his time with the Blues and subsequent transfer to Crystal Palace, he has established himself as a regular player for the Eagles and even earned his place in England squad.

Transfer saga continues

Guehi was part of an intense transfer saga over summer when Newcastle United made several attempts to sign him but failed due to not meeting Palace’s £70 million valuation of him. With less than two years remaining on his current deal with Palace, it is suggested that Newcastle will likely reignite their interest when the transfer window reopens in January.

Newcastle hopes they can secure Guehi at a lower price due to his contract situation; however, if they fail again in finalising an agreement then Chelsea could swoop in and make their move.

As we await further developments, it's clear that the potential return of Guehi to Stamford Bridge would be a significant move for the Blues. The club's interest in re-signing their former player underlines his growth and value as a defender since leaving the Blues. Whether or not this transfer will materialise remains to be seen, but it certainly adds an intriguing subplot to the upcoming Premier League season.
