The much awaited story finally set to premiere after April’s postponement

The much-anticipated official trailer for season three of the hit series "Welcome to Wrexham" has been released, following two highly successful seasons. The show has already garnered a series of accolades, including five Primetime Emmy Awards.

Originally scheduled to debut on FX on Thursday, April 18th, the network announced that the premiere would be postponed until Thursday, May 2nd. FX did not provide an immediate reason for this decision. The first two episodes will air back-to-back on the night of the premiere with a total of eight episodes in this latest installment. Fans can also stream "Welcome to Wrexham" on Hulu the day after its initial showing on FX.

Iconic Rocky theme set to outlook new season

The official trailer gives fans a sneak peek into what's next in store for them. Co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds draw comparisons between their club and the iconic Rocky movie franchise during their short video appearance in the trailer - an apt inclusion considering McElhenney’s connections with Philadelphia.

Rob McElhenney, Co-owners of Wrexham, said:

“Rocky I, he loses. Season one, we lost. Rocky II, he wins. Season two, we won, Now here we are in season three. It’s going to be a very harrowing edge-of-your-seat season.”

McElhenney hails from Pennsylvania city and is known for creating and starring in another hit FX show "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia". Adding more flavor to this theme is “Eye of The Tiger,” by American rock band Survivor which plays throughout the trailer - a song famously used as theme music for Rocky III.

For those unfamiliar with Rocky III, there are some interesting parallels between it and Wrexham's third season under Hollywood ownership.

New season coincides with club's current campaign

Season three promises an exciting journey as it follows Welsh club navigating League Two for the first time in 16 years. Unlike previous seasons which aired months after documenting events, season three will be broadcast during their ongoing 2023/24 campaign.

This strategic move is likely to capitalize on the club’s buzz during their surprising yet successful current season. Despite the typical growing pains associated with moving up the English soccer pyramid, Wrexham has continued its winning streak from last season, recently earning League One promotion- a rare feat in European soccer.

The trailer concludes with Reynolds emphasizing that it's not the Hollywood owners but the people of Wrexham who are truly the stars of this series. “People expected to see a documentary about us changing Wrexham. But I think it’s about Wrexham changing everyone else,” Reynolds proclaimed.

As we eagerly await for season three, Wrexham currently has two more matches remaining before they head off for a summer tour in the United States.
