Deal agreed between Warner Bros. Discovery and the USTA for broadcast rights across 45 European markets

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has signed a contract to extend its current deal with Warner Bros. Discovery which will see the US Open remain on the congolmerate's Eurosport channel in Europe.

Coverage will continue across 45 different markets on the continent, beginning with the 2023 edition of the world famous tennis tournament, which will take place in August and September of this year. Current champion, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, will defend his title at Arthur Ashe Stadium  in Queens, New York.

The agreement also includes exclusive broadcast rights in 42 of those 45 markets.

Some matches from the tournament will also be available on Discovery's free-to-air channels, according to a recent statement.

Vice President of Sports Rights Acquisitions and Syndication at Warner Bros. Discovery Europe, Trojan Paillot, said:

"As the undisputed ‘home of tennis’, our brand is synonymous with the sport. Over the past 25 years, we have brought some of the most memorable moments in US Open history to fans while consistently growing tournament viewership across Europe,"

The only countries absent from this Europe-wide broadcast deal are Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Eurosport holds the broadcast rights to a laundry list of high profile sporting events in European markets including the domestic rights to the Coupe de France, Danish rights to the UEFA Nations League, rights to the Africa Cup of Nations in the UK, Ireland and elsewhere, and the world famous FA Cup in Denmark and Sweden.

However, as was pointed out by the VP at Discovery Europe, tennis has long been the jewel in the crown of Eurosport coverage in Europe and the extension of this deal with the USTA will be warmly welcomed by everyone at Warner Bros. Discovery.
