Team Marketing will oversee the bidding process in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden

UEFA, the governing body of European football, has initiated the tender processes for the sale of media rights in the Nordic countries. This move covers its range of club competitions for the 2024-27 cycle, including the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.

The media rights for the 2024-25, 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons of the UEFA club competitions are now on the market. The tender process was launched across five Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden – on October 25, with a deadline for bids set for November 28.

UEFA has entrusted the sales process to Team Marketing, its partner agency responsible for media and commercial rights sales across its club competitions. This move ensures a streamlined and efficient process, leveraging the expertise of a trusted partner.

Current media coverage

Currently, the UCL is covered in these markets by several broadcasters:

  • TV2 in Norway
  • Telia in Sweden
  • Viaplay in Denmark
  • MTV3 in Finland
  • Viaplay and Syn in Iceland

The Europa League, on the other hand, is shown by Viaplay across Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, and by TV2 in Denmark.

UEFA last launched a European media rights tender for these properties in late September, targeting Belgium and Portugal. The bid deadlines for these countries were set for October 16 and 26, respectively.

Contracts across the continent

Contracts for UEFA's media rights have already been signed across major markets in Europe, including the UK, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. The most recent deal was a tie-up between UEFA and RTL Hungary.

Outside of Europe, Australia is among the markets where a deal for UEFA's media rights has been agreed. This demonstrates UEFA's global reach and the universal appeal of its club competitions.

UEFA's opening of the media rights tender in the Nordic countries is a significant step in the distribution of its club competitions for the 2024-27 cycle. It will be interesting to see which broadcasters secure the rights for these highly anticipated seasons.
