Tottenham manager, Thomas Frank, has expressed his confidence in the backing of the club's owners amidst a challenging start to his tenure. Despite only securing one Premier League home win since joining from Brentford in June and facing criticism from some fans, Frank remains optimistic about the future.
Frank's journey with Spurs has been far from smooth. The team's only Premier League home victory under his leadership was during their opening-weekend fixture against Burnley. With just 18 points from 13 games, they currently sit 12th in the league table - a position that has drawn criticism towards Frank.
However, when asked if he believed that the club's hierarchy would give him time to improve things on the pitch, Frank responded positively. "Yeah, I'm very confident," he told reporters.
Confidence in club leadership
Frank praised the intelligence and business acumen of Tottenham’s owners saying: "It seems like they're good guys who know how to run businesses and are learning about football." He further added that intelligent people understand every successful dynasty or club takes time to build.
Thomas Frank, Tottenham manager, said:
"As I said after the game, I completely understand the frustration. If you don't win, there will always be a frustration. That is normal. Especially as we haven't won as much as we would have wanted to at home, not only this year but the last long period. So the frustration grows a little bit more.
"We are nothing without the fans. No club is anything without the fans. Tottenham is nothing without our fantastic fans, nothing. We need each other. My point is that during matches is where we need each other - where I want to create a fortress. If you want to create a fortress, it can only be together - fans, team, me. My job is to make sure we do everything we can to perform - but can we do that together? That is where you create a difficult place to play."
This statement reflects his belief that patience is key for success and hopes it will be extended towards him as he navigates through this challenging period with Spurs.
Fans' disappointment following recent defeat
The recent defeat against Fulham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw fans booing goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario after a mistake led to Fulham’s second goal. This marked Spurs’ 10th home league loss of 2025 which further fueled disappointment among fans.
In response to this incident, Frank defended Vicario stating those who booed "can't be true Tottenham fans" and labelled their actions as "completely unacceptable". He acknowledged understanding fan disappointment but called for unity within supporters as they face Newcastle United next.
As Tottenham prepares to face Newcastle United, currently just below them in 13th position at St James' Park on Tuesday (20:15 GMT), Frank is hopeful for a positive outcome. This match could be a turning point for the team and an opportunity to regain the confidence of their fans.
