Tottenham Hotspur, the Premier League club, announced on Wednesday that they have dismissed their manager, Thomas Frank. The decision comes after a dismal eight-month stint and an eight-match winless run that left the team in 16th place on the ladder.
The North London club is currently just five points above the relegation zone. This precarious position has been attributed to a series of poor performances under Frank's leadership. The pressure on him had been steadily increasing, culminating in Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat by Newcastle United. This loss left Tottenham with only 29 points from 26 matches and facing a real threat of relegation.
Tottenham released statement:
“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.”
Frank joined Brentford in 2018 and successfully established them as a top-flight club after gaining promotion. However, he has struggled to replicate this success with last season’s Europa League winners, Tottenham Hotspur.
The signs were clear for the 52-year-old manager following Tuesday’s defeat by Newcastle United – their eleventh loss of this league campaign. Supporters expressed their dissatisfaction vocally with jeers echoing around the stadium and chants predicting his imminent dismissal.
Home ground woes
This season has seen Tottenham suffer seven league defeats at home in the Premier League under Frank's management. They have managed to secure victory in only two out of thirteen league games played on their home ground - a statistic that further highlights their struggles this season.
In contrast to these recent disappointments, fans fondly remember former coach Mauricio Pochettino who led them to the Champions League final in 2019. During Tuesday's match against Newcastle United, supporters could be heard singing Pochettino's name - an indication of their longing for the glory days under his leadership. The Argentinian is currently managing the United States men’s national team.
Thomas Frank's tenure at Tottenham Hotspur has ended on a sour note. With the team languishing near the relegation zone, it remains to be seen who will take up the reins and attempt to steer this once successful club back towards its former glory.
