The former Chelsea striker has been warming the bench at RB Leipzig and is looking for an exit to rejuvenate his career

RB Leipzig striker, Timo Werner, is reportedly on the brink of joining Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on loan. This news comes from Germany and indicates that RB Leipzig and Spurs are set for final negotiations today. The deal is expected to include a buy clause.

Werner's return to the Premier League has been highly anticipated, following his previous stint with Chelsea between 2020 and 2022. The 27-year-old forward has had a somewhat disappointing season with Leipzig this year, scoring only twice and providing one assist in 14 appearances across competitions.

During his time at Chelsea, Werner made quite an impact despite some challenges. He scored 23 goals and provided 21 assists in a total of 89 appearances for the club. Out of these games, he made his presence felt with ten goals and thirteen assists from fifty-six Premier League matches.

However, this season has seen him start only four games which may have contributed to his lackluster performance.

Tottenham Hotspur sold their star player Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer without signing an attacking replacement. This left a void in their offensive line-up which they hope will be filled by Werner's arrival.

Since Son will not be available in January, Spurs are desperate for an experienced striker

The German international was also linked with Manchester United earlier this year as they sought additional firepower upfront to ease pressure off young Rasmus Hojlund's shoulders.

Werner brings considerable experience at both domestic and international levels. He has scored an impressive twenty-four goals for Germany's senior team over fifty-seven caps. His career at Leipzig spans two spells during which he made two hundred thirteen appearances scoring one hundred thirteen goals while providing forty-seven assists.

His current contract with Leipzig runs until the end of the 2025-26 season but it seems a new chapter in his career is about to begin.

According to Transfermarkt, Werner's estimated market value stands at €17 million. As per the report from Plettenberg, more details regarding Werner's contract with Spurs will emerge soon.

This move could potentially reignite his career and provide Tottenham with the attacking prowess they have been missing since Kane's departure.

Timo Werner’s potential move to Tottenham Hotspur could be a win-win situation for both parties. For Spurs, it provides an experienced striker who has proven himself in the Premier League before. For Werner, it offers another chance to shine on one of football’s biggest stages.
