Tuchel is looking to take some time away from the game after Munich adventure

Former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager, Thomas Tuchel, has reportedly declined the opportunity to become the next manager of Manchester United. This decision comes despite a recent meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, minority owner of the Red Devils.

Tuchel met with Ratcliffe in Monaco amidst growing uncertainty over Erik ten Hag's position as manager at Old Trafford. During this meeting, it was suggested that Tuchel presented his plans for reviving the careers of Jadon Sancho and Mason Mount at Old Trafford. He cited his successful work with Antonio Rudiger as an example.

However, despite these detailed discussions between Tuchel and Ratcliffe, it seems that a move to Old Trafford is off the table for now.

The German coach had controversial ending

According to The Telegraph, even if offered the job, Tuchel will not be taking up managerial duties at Manchester United. This decision follows closely on his exit from Bayern Munich last month.

The 50-year-old German coach has expressed a desire for a break from football after leaving Allianz Arena. His departure was announced before season end amid talks about possible reconsideration of his decision. However, no agreement could be reached and he was eventually replaced by Burnley boss Vincent Kompany after Bayern paid out his release clause.

Despite declining this opportunity now, Tuchel has previously indicated an interest in returning to Premier League club in future.

Thomas Tuchel, Former Bayern Munich manager, said:

“It is no secret that I loved it at Chelsea, I loved it in England, and I loved it in the Premier League for sure. I was a very, very special time in England, and I remember it well.”

Impact on Man Utd and Ten Hag's future

Tuchel’s recent decision leaves United and Sir Jim Ratcliffe facing tough choices regarding their managerial position. Current Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag found himself under immense pressure late in last season and there is still ongoing review into his position within the club.

Ten Hag's contract with Man Utd only extends another year which adds further complexity to this situation. Several clubs have already been linked with him should he be let go from Old Trafford in the near future.

While Tuchel's decision may come as a disappointment to some Manchester United fans, it opens up new possibilities for the club and its current manager Erik ten Hag. It remains to be seen who will take up the managerial reins at Old Trafford next season.
