The Spanish Soccer Federation (RFEF) has announced a partnership with sports marketing agency Sportfive. The collaboration will see Sportfive leading the sale of international rights for the women's Copa de la Reina knockout cup competition until 2030, as part of RFEF's ongoing efforts to increase international visibility.
This partnership follows RFEF's call for bids on the international broadcast rights to both the Copa de la Reina and Supercopa de España Femenina tournament for three seasons from 2025-26 through 2027-28. As part of their role, Sportfive will oversee these bids.
The deadline for submissions was set at 8 pm CET today, marking an important milestone in this strategic alliance.
Pedro Cubillos, executive director of Sportfive, said:
“We are proud to support the RFEF in bringing the Copa de la Reina to a wider global audience.
“Women’s football continues to grow rapidly, and this tender is an important opportunity to expand visibility and create lasting value for broadcasters and fans worldwide.”
Two packages on offer
To optimize reach and flexibility, the rights have been split into two distinct packages. Lot A encompasses exclusive live and delayed broadcast rights to 11 matches per season, starting from the third round all the way to the final. On the other hand, Lot B provides live and delayed broadcast rights for all three Supercopa de España Femenina tournaments throughout this cycle.
The Supercopa de España Femenina tournament features four teams: winners and runners-up of Copa de la Reina along with two highest-ranked teams from Liga F.
Bidders had been invited to bid on either Lot A or Lot B or both, with RFEF or its production partner providing an international signal. It was stipulated that both federation and clubs would be able to stream matches online after a delay of just 24 hours post-final whistle.
New commercial leadership at RFEF
This new partnership comes three months after Ramón Plaza Bautista, former Real Madrid executive, was appointed head of commercial operations at RFEF. Since his appointment, Bautista has secured insurance firm Mapfre as the first-ever title sponsor of the men’s Copa del Rey and the final of Copa de la Reina. He also oversaw the renewal of Spanish car manufacturer Seat's long-standing sponsorship of both competitions.
The women's football scene in Spain is vibrant and competitive, with giants like Barcelona leading the way. Barcelona won the 2024-25 Copa de la Reina, defeating Atletico Madrid 2-0 in a thrilling final.
This partnership between RFEF and Sportfive is expected to further boost international visibility for women's football in Spain, providing fans worldwide with more opportunities to engage with these exciting tournaments.
