One of the biggest organisations in Mexican sport will continue to be a focal point of the Spanish-language network's coverage

Telemundo, one of the biggest names in Spanish TV in the US, has renewed its rights agreement with Chivas de Guadalajara, one of the most popular clubs in Liga MX. This renewal ensures that fans can continue to enjoy Chivas home matches and select friendlies exclusively on Telemundo.

While the exact terms of the new multi-year deal remain undisclosed, it is confirmed that Liga MX home games for Chivas will continue to be televised on Telemundo and Universo, and streamed on Peacock. This agreement is a continuation of the previous deal between the club and Telemundo, which dates back to 2020.

New deal between Telemundo and Chivas not just about match coverage

The renewed deal is not just about broadcasting home matches. It also includes optional English coverage of these matches on Telemundo’s TV and digital platforms. This is a significant addition, catering to a broader audience base.

Moreover, the agreement extends to live coverage of Chivas Femenil women’s games and youth teams. Fans can also look forward to original content, series, and specials that will complement the live match coverage. Additionally, audio coverage of matches will be featured on SiriusXM.

Eli Velazquez, Executive Vice-President of Sports at Telemundo, said:

“We are proud to announce our partnership with Chivas and to continue serving as the exclusive home of one of Mexico’s most popular teams and look forward to growing the club’s fandom in the U.S. by building upon our collaborative successes of the past few years.”

Partnership critical to the overall coverage of Liga MX in the United States

The Chivas-Telemundo partnership is a crucial part of the tapestry that makes up Liga MX coverage in the US. Other networks such as Univision, TUDN, UniMás, ViX, and Fox Sports also air select games from the league.

Coverage will be led by the iconic Andres Cantor on play-by-play, alongside Manuel Sol. Miguel Gurwitz will host the pre- and post-game Futbol Estelar Chivas Extra programming.

Chivas has proven to be a significant draw for viewers. In May, the game between Chivas and Tigres became the most-watched Chivas game in Telemundo history, with 3.3 million viewers tuning in across all platforms. Furthermore, total audiences for Chivas matches have increased by 40% for the network this year compared to 2022.

Chivas President, Amaury Vergara, said:

“We are thrilled about this new era between Chivas and Telemundo. We are confident that it’s the ideal option to provide the best experience for our fans all around the U.S. and want to continue building and developing the great upcoming initiatives and joint projects that we are excited about.”

Currently, Chivas sits in fourth place in the Liga MX Apertura. They are set to clash with Cruz Azul on Saturday, November 4, a match that will undoubtedly draw a large audience on Telemundo, Universo, and Peacock.

In conclusion, the renewal of the TV rights agreement between Telemundo and Chivas is a win for Liga MX fans. It ensures continued access to one of the league's biggest clubs, while also expanding coverage to include English broadcasts, women's games, youth teams, and more.
