Napoli has made sure that they remain in the Serie A title race by getting positive results in January. After a short break, Napoli will be looking to set the tone for the rest of the season when they travel away to Venezia on Sunday. The hosts also desperately need a good result after the break to steer clear of the relegation positions.
Inter Milan has a game in hand over Napoli, and the defending champions also have an advantage of four points at the top of the points table. Napoli lost their way in the title race at the end of 2021, but they managed to remain in discussion for the Scudetto by remaining unbeaten in the league during January.
Luciano Spalletti’s team travels to Venezia on the back of an emphatic 4-1 win against Salernitana in Naples two weeks ago. The Italian coach has made an instant impact since arriving in Naples six months ago. They score a fair number of goals, but their strength has been defense this season. Napoli is the best defensive unit in Serie A this season, conceding only 16 goals in 23 games.
Venezia has endured a completely different trajectory than Napoli at both ends of the pitch. They are currently 17th in the points table, one point over the relegation places. Venezia does have a match in hand over other competitors in the relegation battle.
The game in hand will be of no use for Venezia if they don’t improve their form in Serie A. Venezia is currently on a winless run of five Serie A games (three defeats and two draws). They come into the game against Napoli on the back of a narrow defeat away at Inter Milan.
Considering the recent form of both sides, Napoli is overwhelming favourites to win the game away at Venezia on Sunday. Spalleti’s men did register a big win away at Salernitana, but most of their victories have been by a slender margin. Venezia didn’t make things easy for Inter a fortnight ago, so Napoli will have to fight hard to get the victory.
