The UK grand slam will air on the now Viaplay owned platform as Nova Sports picks up Greek rights

Premier Sports Ireland and Nova Greece have both secured the rights to broadcast the prestigious Wimbledon tennis championships.

Premier Sports, which is owned by Viaplay Group, will offer continuous coverage of the event via their linear channels Premier Sports 1 and 2, as well as through three red buttons throughout the tournament, which will offer continuous court feeds.

Premier Sports Founder Michael O’Rourke, said:

“Wimbledon is one of the most iconic sports events in the calendar and we’re delighted to be in a position to bring comprehensive live coverage to our audiences. With up to five separate live match feeds available daily we’ll provide real choice for tennis fans during this fantastic fortnight.”

Paul Davies, Head of Broadcast, Production and Media Rights at the All England Club, said:

“We are delighted to enter into this agreement with Premier Sports in Ireland. Their extensive coverage plans, including red button coverage, ensures fans of Wimbledon in Ireland will be well served.”

NOVA retains rights in Greece

In the meantime, the Greek pay TV operator Nova has also retained the rights to broadcast Wimbledon for another two years.

There will be an exclusive broadcast of the tournament through Novasports channels over the EON+ service in Greece, as part of Nova's Novasports channels.

In terms of significance, this year's championship is particularly significant for Greek tennis fans because it will see participation by two of the country's finest players, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari.

The price of an EON+ subscription starts at €25 and subscribers will be able to access all matches along with other benefits.

Both of these deals are an indication of how major media groups are realizing the importance of securing rights to broadcast major sporting events such as Wimbledon.

Due to the historical significance and reputation of these tournaments within the sports culture and their historical significance, they attract large audiences around the world.

With regard to the rest of the world, Chinese streaming giants, Shinai Sports, have agreed to extend Wimbledon's contract for a period of two years.

After securing sublicensing from Sky Deutschland, the Axel Springer-owned media company has acquired rights to broadcast free-to-air coverage of Wimbledon in Germany.

As far as the UK is concerned, Wimbledon remains on BBC and their deal runs until 2027.
