Kieran Trippier is also expected to miss the Manchester City clash

Newcastle United's fullback, Kieran Trippier, is anticipated to miss the upcoming Premier League fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester City due to a calf injury. This news comes as a significant blow for the Magpies and their fans.

Trippier sustained his injury during last weekend's 3-0 victory over Wolves. The England international was forced off the pitch just after half-time, with Tino Livramento stepping in as his replacement.

Post-match, manager Eddie Howe expressed concern about Trippier's condition. He stated that further assessment would be necessary to determine the severity of the defender's injury. It has now been confirmed that Trippier will be absent from Monday night’s fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and also from the subsequent FA Cup match versus Manchester City.

Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe, said:

“He obviously felt something in his calf, he had to come off the pitch, that is a concern for us. I don’t know how serious it is at the moment.”

Newcastle are plagued with so many injuries at the moment

The extent of Trippier’s injury means that he won’t be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for England’s two friendlies versus Brazil and Belgium at month-end. However, thanks to the international break, it is hoped that he will not miss any additional matches for Newcastle unless there are setbacks in his recovery process.

There are four other players on Newcastle United's injury list besides Trippier, including Matt Targett, who is nearing a return from a hamstring injury. While it is unclear whether he will make his way into the team that will face Chelsea, Callum Wilson (chest), Joelinton (thigh), and Nick Pope (shoulder) have all sustained serious injuries recently. Unfortunately, they are unlikely to return to the field this season.

These injuries present significant challenges for Newcastle United players moving forward into their upcoming fixtures against formidable opponents. The team will need to adapt and strategize effectively to compensate for the absence of these key players.
