Arteta says Premier League title battle doesn’t affect their friendship

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, has assured fans that his friendship with Pep Guardiola will remain unscathed despite the recent clash between their teams. The two football giants faced off in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Etihad Stadium last weekend. This match was part of Manchester City's quest to secure a fifth consecutive Premier League title.

The game was not without controversy as players clashed at full-time and accusations were made against Arsenal for employing "dark arts". However, Arteta insists that these events have not affected his relationship with Guardiola, his former mentor.

Maintaining bonds amidst rivalry

Speaking ahead of Arsenal's upcoming Leicester fixture at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, Arteta emphasized the strength of his bond with Guardiola. He stated that their friendship remains intact despite the intense competition on the field.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal manager, said:

"I love him, I respect him, I admire him and I admire his team and everything that he does, This is sport. One thing is our profession, another is our personal relationship. If our relationship was damaged because one draws and the other one wins or the amount of times that they've beaten us, I would not talk to him any more.

"So that's not our relationship, especially the relationship that I consider both of us have. In sport it will never get in my way, a personal relationship, that's for sure. If you don't like opinions then you shouldn't be sitting in the position that I am. It's quite simple. Don't take it personally. It's part of our job. The things that you really care about, make sure you handle them in the right way. That relationship I really care about."

Arteta and Guardiola share a deep history together from their time at Manchester City where they worked closely together. Their shared experiences have fostered mutual respect and admiration which transcends professional rivalry.

Not so bright start

Arsenal has had an impressive start to this season. They head into Saturday's fixture having secured 11 points from their opening five Premier League matches - an achievement worth noting for sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike.

The Gunners' victories include wins over Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. They also came within seconds of clinching victory against Manchester City in what would have been a significant upset in this year’s title race. In addition to these notable performances, they beat Wolves on opening day and managed to hold Brighton to a 1-1 draw after Declan Rice was sent off during playtime.

As we look forward to more exciting matches this season, it is clear that while rivalries may heat up on the pitch, mutual respect and friendships between managers like Arteta and Guardiola remain unshaken. This dynamic adds an interesting layer to the world of football, reminding us that beyond the competition, there is a deep-seated camaraderie that binds these professionals together.
