Under this agreement, Mediaset will simultaneously broadcast six games in collaboration with DAZN, the holder of LaLiga's Italian rights

In a significant development for sports fans, Mediaset has secured a sub-licensing deal with DAZN to broadcast select games from Spanish soccer's LaLiga in Italy. This agreement will allow six top-flight matches to be shown free-to-air (FTA) throughout the remainder of the ongoing 2025-26 season.

Under this arrangement, Mediaset will cover six games simultaneously with DAZN, the Italian rights-holder of LaLiga. This means that out of the 380 LaLiga games each season, six will be available FTA in Italy.

Mediaset has hinted that these six matches may include high-profile fixtures such as El Clasico - the fierce rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona - as well as the Madrid derby clash between Real and Atletico Madrid.

Extension of an existing partnership

DAZN holds LaLiga rights in Italy through a five-year extension deal unveiled in April 2024. This agreement also covers rights to second-tier LaLiga Hypermotion and includes highlights rights. In addition to its Italian coverage, this deal also granted DAZN broadcasting rights in Portugal.

The current arrangement builds on recent collaborations between Mediaset and DAZN. Earlier this year, Mediaset sub-licensed rights from DAZN to broadcast FIFA Club World Cup matches both in Italy and Spain.

Through this agreement, Mediaset was able to broadcast one match per day FTA from the US-based CWC tournament featuring two Italian teams – Juventus and Inter Milan.

Impact on Italian fans

This new development is particularly exciting for fans of Giacomo Raspadori and Matteo Ruggeri who are currently contracted with Atletico Madrid - one of LaLiga's top clubs.

This sub-licensing deal between Mediaset and DAZN is a significant step forward in making high-quality soccer more accessible to fans in Italy. It not only provides them with the opportunity to watch some of the most exciting matches FTA but also strengthens the relationship between these two major broadcasters.
