Spanish soccer's top-flight, LaLiga, has launched a broadcast rights tender for the Nordic market covering the 2026-2031 cycle. This move will impact Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden over a five-season term. The tender is divided into four distinct packages available to both free-to-air and pay-TV services. The request for proposal (RfP) includes four rights packages: A, B, C and D. Each package offers unique content opportunities to potential bidders.

Package A covers all LaLiga fixtures each season exclusively. It also includes ancillary content surrounding the competition such as match highlights, archive footage and feature content. Additionally it provides licensed clips for distribution and the right to distribute the LaLigaTV Channel offering either in full or by extracting individual pieces of content.

Package B offers five matches per round of LaLiga (half of all matches each season), along with similar ancillary content and clip distribution rights as package A. Packages C & D split the remaining LaLiga matches each season between them. Package D holds rights to around 30 live matches per year - no more than one per gameweek from those with late Saturday kick-offs. Meanwhile package C will showcase every other game not held by package D. Both packages share co-exclusive ancillary content and clips rights while gaining access to one El Clasico derby game each season; first by package C then followed by package D at least 24 hours later.

Submission deadline & current rights holders

The deadline for submission of bids is March 3rd 2026 with awarding set for March 10th. Currently several broadcasters hold LaLiga rights across the Nordic region. In Denmark, commercial broadcaster TV2 has held the rights since 2020, and in Norway, an unrelated TV2 platform holds the rights. Telia, a Stockholm-based telecoms operator, holds LaLiga rights across Sweden and Finland while in Iceland; online service Livey broadcasts the competition.

Several Nordic players currently play in LaLiga including Sweden’s Roony Bardghji (Barcelona), Williot Swedberg and Carl Starfelt (both Celta Vigo), Norway’s Alexander Sorloth (Atletico Madrid) and Orjan Nyland (Sevilla), Denmark’s Andreas Christensen (Barcelona), Finland’s Lucas Bergstrom (RCD Mallorca), and Iceland’s Orri Óskarsson (Real Sociedad).

In addition to LaLiga coverage, other Spanish soccer action is also broadcasted in the region. The Disney+ OTT service recently struck a deal to showcase the Copa del Rey knockout cup competition across these territories through till 2029-30 campaign. This tender launch marks an exciting time for sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike as it promises more comprehensive coverage of one of soccer's most prestigious leagues.
