Jeremie Frimpong, a former Manchester City academy player, has sparked a debate in the football world by stating that two players from his old club are superior to Real Madrid's rising star, Jude Bellingham.
Bellingham has been making waves at Real Madrid and is considered one of the top contenders for the Ballon d’Or, especially if England triumphs in Euro 2024. His performance at Santiago Bernabeu has set such high standards that it will likely be remembered for years to come.
However, despite his impressive form this season, some argue that this is the first time Bellingham has truly played at a world-class standard when compared to some of Manchester City’s big names.
Michael Dawson recently picked Foden over Bellingham
Rodri and Phil Foden are two examples of consistent brilliance in Manchester City's lineup. For Rodri, playing at an elite level seems second nature. Even an underwhelming display from him would send shockwaves around the world - a testament to his usual high standards.
Phil Foden also falls into this category. If Manchester City leads 1-0 with Foden on the score sheet or heavily involved in goal creation, it hardly comes as a surprise anymore.
Recently Michael Dawson claimed that 23-year-old Foden is currently superior to Jude Bellingham.
Both Man City and Real Madrid filled with midfield magicians
In an episode on GOAL’s Front Three show, Jeremie Frimpong was asked about midfielders who he believes outshine Jude Bellingham. He named Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva as better players than young England midfielder.
Frimpong's opinion might stem from observing both Silva and De Bruyne during his time at Manchester City's academy. Both players have had longer careers at the top level than Bellingham, which is a crucial factor when assessing players' standings in the game.
While it could be argued that Bellingham has had a better season than De Bruyne and Silva, this doesn't necessarily make him a superior player overall.
A more fitting comparison might be between Jude Bellingham’s Real Madrid midfield partners, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, and Manchester City's duo. Like De Bruyne and Silva, Kroos and Modric have achieved much in their careers while maintaining consistent performances over many years.
