Globo, the leading Brazilian broadcaster, and CazéTV, a popular YouTube channel managed by renowned streamer Casimiro Miguel, have successfully acquired broadcasting rights in Brazil for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2023. The event is set to take place in Germany next year.
The agreement with UEFA, the governing body of football in Europe, stipulates that coverage of the 51-game tournament will be evenly divided between Globo and CazéTV. Both entities will hold exclusive rights to broadcast 25 matches each. They also share non-exclusive rights to air the final match scheduled for July 14 in Berlin.
Globo plans to broadcast five games on its main free-to-air network while all 26 matches will be available on its pay-TV channel SporTV as well as digital platforms Globoplay and GE.
This development follows after CAA Eleven agency - UEFA’s exclusive sales agent for its national team competitions - launched a tender for competition rights in Brazil last April. The first-round bid deadline was May 22.
LiveMode agency facilitated the deal for CazéTV
CazéTV’s package of rights was negotiated by LiveMode agency which manages the YouTube channel jointly with Miguel. Currently boasting over nine million subscribers, this deal significantly boosts their sports content portfolio.
LiveMode has previously secured broadcasting rights for CazéTV to air both UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League matches – second and third-tier men’s club competitions respectively – from seasons spanning from 2024-25 through to 2026-27.
In addition to these acquisitions, LiveMode also holds an impressive collection of other sports broadcasting rights including:
- Over 500 hours worth of Paris Olympics Games coverage slated for year 2024.
- Rights to German soccer’s top-tier Bundesliga.
- Streaming rights for the 2023 Pan American Games.
The YouTube channel has also live-streamed 22 matches during last year's Qatar World Cup and this year's women's World Cup hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
With another mega event added to its portfolio, Globo has strengthened its presence in Brazil
Globo, on the other hand, continues to maintain its stronghold in sports broadcasting. It held exclusive rights to the delayed Euro 2020 tournament which was staged across 11 cities in as many countries. The broadcaster had previously shared rights with free-to-air rival Band for the Euro 2012 and 2016 editions.
Furthermore, Globo has secured rights to broadcast the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup competition featuring Brazilian side Fluminese. This follows their victory at last month’s pan-South American Copa Libertadores. The competition is scheduled between December 12 and December 22 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The UEFA European Championships will be held from June 14 to July 14 across ten host cities in Germany including Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart. With these new broadcasting agreements now firmly established with both Globo and CazéTV - Brazilian football fans can look forward to comprehensive coverage of this highly anticipated event.
