Manchester United legend and renowned Sky Sports pundit, Gary Neville, is set to bolster NBC Sport’s Premier League coverage as a special contributor. This move marks a significant addition to the American sports broadcasting landscape.
The 49-year-old football icon will make his debut on 'Premier League Live' during Manchester United vs Fulham in the Premier League’s curtain-raiser at 3 p.m. ET. Following this, Neville is scheduled to make weekly appearances each Sunday, including the upcoming weekend.
This arrangement forms part of a collaboration with Sky Sports and will see the former England international joining the NBC team for special broadcasts both from locations within the UK and their International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Connecticut.
Following Jamie Carragher's footsteps
Neville follows in the footsteps of his punditry partner Jamie Carragher by making this transition onto American screens. Despite being rivals on-field during their playing careers, they have since become an influential duo on Sky Sports shows such as Monday Night Football. Carragher was part of CBS Sports’ highly popular coverage of last season's Champions League which regularly featured pundits Thierry Henry and Micah Richards. With Neville now joining NBC Sports, they too have a former Premier League defender and broadcasting heavyweight within their ranks.
Since retiring from professional football in 2011, Gary Neville has emerged as one of football broadcasting's biggest names. He had already tested his hand at punditry during his playing career with appearances for ITV Sport during major tournaments like the 2002 World Cup and 2008 European Championships.
He joined Sky Sports ahead of the 2011/12 season replacing Andy Gray as match analyst on Monday Night Football - today he is one of British broadcaster’s most recognizable faces. In 2022, Neville won the Royal Television Society award for best Sports Presenter, Commentator or Pundit. His show 'The Overlap' has gained significant popularity in recent years with over a million subscribers on YouTube. The flagship show 'Stick to Football', featuring Neville alongside Carragher, Roy Keane, Jill Scott and Ian Wright discussing all things soccer, has generated particular excitement among fans.
A storied playing career
Neville's illustrious playing career saw him become a stalwart of Sir Alex Ferguson’s wildly successful Manchester United teams. He made the fifth most appearances of any player in the club’s history and ranks in the top 50 for appearances made in the Premier League.
During his tenure at Old Trafford, he won two Champions League trophies - one as part of United’s historic treble in 1998/99 - along with twelve Premier League titles and four FA Cups. His strong partnership with David Beckham stood out both at club level and during his 85 appearances for England.
While Neville may not have claimed international trophies to match his club success, there is no doubt that he had a distinguished Premier League career – one that now continues off-field as he brings his expertise to NBC Premier League coverage.
