France Televisions, the public service broadcaster, has reported a significant increase in viewing figures for its coverage of the Coupe de France final. The final match saw Lens emerge as champions after defeating Nice and attracted an average of 4.06 million viewers.
According to Médiamétrie, a TV audience research firm, this figure represents a 25% increase from last year's final between Paris Saint-Germain and Reims. This surge in viewership demonstrates the growing popularity of football in France and the increasing appeal of top-tier men's soccer knockout competitions.
The peak audience for this year's final on May 22 was recorded at 5.3 million during the final whistle. The average viewership throughout the match represented an impressive audience share of 24.7%.
Most watched program of the evening
The game was not only exciting but also managed to be the most-watched TV program that evening in France. Lens established a two-goal lead before Nice briefly clawed back into contention, adding to viewer engagement and excitement.
This marked the last fixture under the current deal between France TV and French Football Federation which ran from season 2022-23 until conclusion of season 2025-26 cup. Over these four seasons, selected games were shown by France TV while others were covered by BeIN Sports. As it stands now, there is no deal set up for future broadcasts on France TV for any action from next cycle of Coupe de France matches. However, broadcasting rights have already been secured by BeIN Sports last December for seasons spanning from 2026-27 through till end of season 2029-30 cycle.
As per their contract with French Football Federation, out of total number of 63 matches per season, BeIN Sports is required to co-broadcast at least 10 matches with a partner broadcaster. As of now, there is no deal in place with any co-broadcaster. The increased viewership for the Coupe de France final on France Televisions indicates a growing interest in soccer among French audiences. The future broadcasting rights have been secured by BeIN Sports, but it remains to be seen who will step up as their co-broadcasting partner for the upcoming seasons.
