Sources within West Ham suggest that relegation could lead to a loss of around £200m, exacerbating the club's existing financial strain

West Ham manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, is set to meet with the club's senior management on Monday to discuss the ramifications of their recent relegation to the Championship. This comes amid speculation that he may be leaving the club.

Nuno has remained tight-lipped about his future at London Stadium after failing to prevent West Ham from dropping out of the Premier League for the first time since 2011. It is anticipated that his future will be clarified this week.

The former Wolves, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest manager signed a three-year deal with West Ham in September. Despite an upturn in form towards season-end, including a final day 3-0 victory over Leeds, it was not enough to save them from relegation.

Impact of relegation

West Ham's poor start and subsequent run of 10 games without a win from November through mid-January proved costly. Chairman David Sullivan and vice-chairman Daniel Kretinsky are expected to play pivotal roles in Monday’s meeting. According to sources within West Ham, relegation could cost the club approximately £200m in lost income - a significant blow at a time when finances are already under strain. The Hammers reported a loss of £104m in their most recent accounts up until May 31st, 2025 and are projected to lose another substantial sum this season.

In light of these financial difficulties, player sales seem inevitable. Mateus Fernandes has caught Manchester United's attention as they look for central midfielders while skipper Jarrod Bowen is also sought after by several Premier League clubs. However, Bowen declined discussing any potential transfers during his post-match interview following the Leeds game.

This period marks an uncertain future for both players and management alike at West Ham as they grapple with the financial and strategic implications of their relegation. The outcome of Monday's meeting could provide some much-needed clarity for all parties involved.
