Tigo possesses broadcasting rights for elite football leagues such as the English Premier League and Germany's Bundesliga

Fox Latin America, a leading regional broadcaster, has recently taken control of the programming and production elements associated with Tigo Sports Channel. This significant development covers Tigo's assets across six Central American countries - Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.

Tigo Sports is owned by Millicom - a prominent South American telecommunications provider that operates under the Tigo brand in the region. With this acquisition by Fox Latin America, sports fans can expect an even more robust offering of their favorite sports content.

The deal encompasses not only Tigo's production network but also its "access to recognizable talent" as well as its sports rights. As part of this new arrangement, Fox is set to launch four feeds across these Central American markets.

Enhanced viewing experience for fans

This move ensures that Tigo customers in these countries will continue enjoying their preferred sports content with an enhanced viewing experience. The merger brings together two substantial sports rights portfolios – those of Fox and Tigo – providing viewers access to top-tier soccer properties such as the English Premier League and Germany's Bundesliga.

Carlos Martinez, Fox Latin America executive vice president and managing director, said:

"Central America is a region with a deep passion for sports, and we are excited to strengthen our presence by delivering a first-class sports service that blends local content and talent with our existing international rights.

"At the same time, I am pleased to appoint Leandro Lagos as the head of Fox in Central America to help lead our operations in the territory.”

Moreover, subscribers can look forward to coverage of other major sporting events like baseball games, motor racing events US college sports matches and mixed martial arts competitions. Notably included in this list is the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup men's national team tournament which promises to be a thrilling spectacle for football enthusiasts.

In line with these developments at Fox Latin America’s operations in Central America , Leandro Lagos has been appointed as the new head for Fox in Central America. His leadership will be instrumental during this transition period and beyond as he steers the company towards maximizing opportunities from this acquisition.

This strategic tie-up between Fox Latin America and Millicom’s Tigo Sports is set to revolutionize sports broadcasting in Central America. By combining their resources and expertise, they aim to provide an unparalleled viewing experience for sports fans and betting enthusiasts across the region. This move not only strengthens Fox's position in the market but also promises a more diverse and comprehensive sports content offering for Tigo subscribers.
