Reportedly, DAZN to make 102 redundancies in UK and Netherlands operations

DAZN, the global sports streaming platform, is undergoing significant changes as it refines its business strategy. The company, which acquired Team Whistle along with Eleven Sports last year, is now streamlining its operations to focus on football, boxing and NFL content. This shift in focus is leading to downsizing in various departments, including commercial, finance, media advertising management, and global content production and editorial teams, particularly in non-live content areas.

The technology team in Amsterdam is also being reduced as DAZN aims to expand its presence in Hyderabad, India, and Katowice, Poland. Despite these reductions, the company emphasizes that it plans to grow its overall headcount as it expands into these new locations. Employees affected by these changes are being given a 45-day consultation period during which they can apply for internal vacancies, offering some potential for retaining their positions within the company.

Diversification and Market Expansion

DAZN's recent efforts have included a focus on the UK market, with the launch of a linear channel and its acquisition of NFL Game Pass. CEO Shay Segev has also expressed interest in the Premier League as a potential future rights option. DAZN has diversified its offerings by integrating ticketing, merchandise sales, and betting into its app.

The company's statement emphasizes that these changes are part of its broader market-led growth strategy, which includes expanding into new sports entertainment verticals like gaming, merchandise, ticketing, stats, communities, and social channels. DAZN aims to assemble teams with the right expertise in strategic locations to support its continued success.

In addition to these operational changes, DAZN is also implementing shifts in senior management roles. These include Alice Maschia overseeing strategic partnerships, commercial distribution, new revenues, advertising, acquisition, and brand for the DACH region, while CTO Sandeep Tiku takes on broader responsibilities in operations and customer retention. Pete Oliver, previously the Chief Marketing Officer, now leads growth markets and oversees boxing, NFL, and Team Whistle, reflecting DAZN's evolving priorities.

As DAZN adapts to the evolving sports streaming landscape, these changes reflect its commitment to staying at the forefront of sports entertainment and providing viewers with an enhanced and diversified experience.
