David Beckham docuseries coming to Netflix

The much-awaited documentary will air on 4th October

Sports documentaries are slowly becoming an mandatory genre for streaming platforms which wasn't a case few years. 

The trend has changed especially on Netflix after the success of the F1 series Drive To Survive and King Richard featuring the story of the Williams sisters, there has been an increased demand for sports documentaries.

Now Netflix has announced another big docuseries with the release of David Beckham's documentary trailer. A name like David Beckham doesn't need an introduction. 

An ex-professional footballer turned successful businessman and big personality, his documentary announcement has swept the internet.

Known as the greatest midfielder of his generation and the best set-piece specialist of all time, he would return to the screen after screening his day-to-day life, his friends, his family, as well as his struggles and biggest achievements throughout his journey in a four-part documentary series.

The documentary will take fans through Beckham's entire life story starting with his childhood in Manchester, his professional career, his extravagant love story with his wife Victoria, his life post-retirement and his journey at Inter Miami.

Produced by Beckham's own studio, Studio 99, the documentary recounts Beckham's journey from Manchester's top player to Inter Miami's president and co-owner.

Nicola Howson and Billie Shepherd are producing the show with fellow Academy Award-winner John Battsek, as well as Academy Award-winning director Fisher Stevens (for Palmer, And We Go Green, and The Cove). 

As executive producers, David Gardner and Gary Neville are working alongside Tim Cragg as director of photography and Michael Harte as editor on the show.

Netflix made the announcement on 26 September 2023 through Beckham's Instagram message to his fans: 

“I’m excited to confirm that I am partnering with Netflix on a documentary series about my life and career.

“The series will feature unseen archive, untold stories as well as interviews with the people who have been a part of my journey. The series is directed and produced by Academy Award winners Fisher Stevens and John Battsek. Watch this space …”

When can I watch it?

Netflix will air the series starting on 4th October. Netflix fans can access Netflix via the app, website, and also on a select number of smart TVs.
