Arsenal are reportedly close to sealing deal for Mikel Merino

Arsenal Football Club is reportedly on the brink of signing Real Sociedad midfielder, Mikel Merino. The Spanish footballer has been a long-standing target for Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta. Reports suggest that both clubs have reached an agreement on the transfer fee, bringing the Gunners closer to securing Merino's services.

Merino, aged 28, has had an impressive run with Real Sociedad in recent years. He was a standout performer last season in La Liga and played a pivotal role in Spain’s triumph at Euro 2024. His consistent form and remarkable performance have made him a priority for Arsenal who have ramped up their pursuit of the player this summer.

The midfielder's absence from Real Sociedad’s opening match of the season against Rayo Vallecano sparked speculation about his impending move to Emirates Stadium. With only 12 months remaining on his contract at Anoeta, it is understood that Merino is keen to join Arsenal.

President Jokin Aperribay arrives in London

Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay addressed these speculations earlier this week hinting that negotiations are underway and could soon be finalised. Aperribay reportedly arrived in London on Tuesday to finalise what seems like an inevitable transfer for Euro 2024 champion.

“We will talk to Arsenal and defend the interests of Real Sociedad," said Aperribay during a media interaction. "When we consider that the offer is good, we will say yes,” he added while acknowledging Merino's wishes which led them not to call him up against Rayo Vallecano.

Deal edging closer

Despite significant progress in talks between both parties involved, official confirmation regarding this deal remains pending as of now. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Monday, expressing confidence that the deal will be completed soon. “I expect Mikel Merino to be an Arsenal player this week,” Romano posted on X.

This potential signing could prove to be a significant boost for Arsenal, given Merino's proven track record and his ability to perform at the highest level. As sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts eagerly await official confirmation of this deal, it is clear that Mikel Merino's move to Gunners could potentially reshape the dynamics of both clubs involved.
