After signing Liam Delap for the Club World Cup, Chelsea are now closing in on Mike Maignan

Chelsea, one of the most popular football clubs, is set to make another significant move this summer. After signing Liam Delap for the Club World Cup, they are now closing in on another player. The Blues have been linked with several players recently and even made a bid for Jamie Gittens that fell short of expectations. However, it seems like they have made a breakthrough with Mike Maignan.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan has finally given in after tough negotiations driven by Maignan's strong will. In the coming hours or days, details of a deal worth approximately €18 million should be finalized that would bring substantial revenue to Rossoneri.

This figure is less than what the Italian club initially requested but more than Chelsea's first offer. If things go according to plan, Maignan will soon join Chelsea as their new goalkeeper.

Why Maignan?

Robert Sanchez ended last season in great form and if he can maintain that momentum he could become one of the world’s best goalkeepers. However, his tenure at Chelsea has been marred by errors leading them to seek a more reliable option - which is where Maignan comes into play. Maignan is undoubtedly a high-profile name in football circles but there are some question marks around him as well.

A couple of years ago many considered him as one of the best goalkeepers globally but since then both his performances and form have taken a dip raising questions about whether he would be an upgrade on Sanchez at his best?

While numbers might not suggest so; football isn't just about statistics alone. It involves strategy and team dynamics among other factors which could potentially make this move beneficial for both parties involved.
