The United Arab Emirates-based over-the-top streaming platform, Begin, has secured a deal to exclusively broadcast the Spanish men's soccer's Supercopa in Pakistan. This move marks a significant addition to Begin's sports rights portfolio.
Announced on Friday (January 2), the agreement will enable Begin to air the next three editions of the four-team Supercopa. The tournament takes place annually midway through the Spanish soccer season. The deal commences with the 2026 Supercopa, which is set entirely in Saudi Arabia and kicks off on January 7.
Begin's exclusive coverage of this event in Pakistan was facilitated by sports technology giant Sportradar. The bid was submitted directly to the event organizers - Spanish soccer’s RFEF governing body.
Jonathan Mark, co-founding chief executive at Begin, said:
"The Spanish Supercopa is a strategically important rights property for us. Its condensed, knockout format allows us to deliver high-value football in a defined window, and it complements our existing LaLiga partnership as we continue to build a focused premium sports offering for audiences in Pakistan."
The 2026 edition of this mini-tournament features heavyweights Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Athletic Club. It runs from January 7 through January 11.
From entertainment content licensing to sports broadcasting
Launched in June 2024, Begin initially secured licensing rights for non-sports entertainment content from media giants NBCUniversal and Sony Pictures Entertainment. However, it has since expanded its focus towards sports broadcasting as well. In early September, it secured coverage rights for soccer's Saudi Pro League matches live in Pakistan through a three-year tie-up that extends until the end of the 2027-28 campaign.
On Friday itself German broadcaster Sportdigital also unveiled a deal for broadcasting next three editions of that four-team event via their dedicated Sportdigital Fussball pay-TV channel and Sportdigital+ app. All games are scheduled at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium located in Jeddah – Saudi Arabia under its current hosting rights deal running until 2029.
The Supercopa was moved to Saudi Arabia in 2020, under a deal reportedly worth more than €40 million ($41 million) per year. The last season's edition saw Barcelona clinching the title by defeating Real Madrid in the final. This new deal with Begin is set to bring the thrill and excitement of Spanish soccer closer to fans in Pakistan, further expanding the global reach of this popular tournament.
