Rooney's co-hosts, Kelly Somers and Kae Kurd, will contribute their unique insights to the discussions

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has recently launched a new podcast, The Wayne Rooney Show. This innovative program is set to revolutionize the way sports fans consume football content, offering an engaging blend of match analysis and personal insights from one of England's most celebrated footballers.

Available in audio on BBC Sounds and video across iPlayer, the BBC Sport website/app, YouTube and other social channels, The Wayne Rooney Show is not your average sports podcast. It features legendary former England, Manchester United and Everton forward - Wayne Rooney - dissecting the biggest football debates each week throughout the 2025/26 season.

Rooney will be joined by co-hosts Kelly Somers and Kae Kurd who will add their unique perspectives to these discussions. This dynamic trio promises to deliver insightful commentary that goes beyond mere match analysis.

Introducing 'The Football Interview' with Kelly Somers

In addition to hosting duties on The Wayne Rooney Show, Kelly Somers will also present 'The Football Interview'. This new show aims to delve into the personal stories behind top men’s and women’s footballers. By focusing on their journeys both on and off the pitch, this show offers an intimate look at what it takes to excel in professional football.

In response to audience demand for quicker access to key match highlights, these will now be available sooner across iPlayer and the BBC Sport website/app. Fans can expect highlights viewable from 8pm on Saturdays and Sundays or roughly 30 minutes after full time for games played during weekdays.

This move brings BBC's highlight release schedule closer in line with Sky Sports' immediate post-match YouTube updates – ensuring fans don't miss out on any crucial moments from their favourite matches.

Revamped shows and new presenting teams

These new additions join the revamped 'Match Of The Day', now presented by a fresh team comprising Kelly Cates, Gabby Logan and Mark Chapman. Other recurring shows such as 'The Monday Night Club', 'Football Focus', and 'The Women’s Football Show' continue to provide comprehensive coverage of football events.

Director of BBC Sport, Alex Kay-Jelski, said:

“Welcome to the new football season. You know the feeling. That buzz in your stomach. That hopeful voice in your head “this could be our year.” The highs, the heartbreak, the glorious unpredictability of it all. From the first whistle to the last-minute drama, we’re right there with you. On the edge of our seats, refreshing the live page, wincing at referees or VAR, shouting at the TV, arguing in the group chat. We are fans. Just like you. And that’s what this new era of football on BBC Sport is all about… you.

“This season, we’re not just covering the games. We’re following the fans. Every goal, every story, every stat, every moment. Brought to you where you want it, when you want it, and how you love it. Whether you’re shouting for Liverpool or loving Lionesses, whether you back Chelsea Women or Cheltenham Town, you’re at the heart of everything we do. We’re making football coverage for fans. And this year, it’s bolder, deeper, and more connected than ever before. All of it free. All of it for everyone.”

BBC's innovative approach to sports broadcasting, with the launch of The Wayne Rooney Show and other new formats, promises an exciting era for sports fans and betting enthusiasts alike. With faster access to match highlights and in-depth personal stories from top footballers, BBC is setting a new standard in sports entertainment.
