Preview: Anthony Joshua vs Jermaine Franklin

For Joshua, this could potentially be the last bout of his career, if he loses. The Englishman has been on the hunt of regaining his best form and rhythm since his second defeat to current heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk last August. Speaking ahead of the bout, Joshua said,

“I will retire if I lose. I’m not here to battle people. If people want me to retire I will retire. I’m not going to fight if people don’t want me too. It’s not even about the money. It’s about the competitor in you. That’s what’s important. Pressure comes with the business and it comes with the territory, I know that.”

This will be the first time that Joshua will be fighting without a world title at stake and any slip-up at the London O2 arena will prove costly for the 33-year-old. His current record stands at 24-3 but he has not won since 2020, following his victory against Kubrat Pulev. At the London O2 arena though, Joshua boasts of a 7-0 record.

When the bout was announced, Jermaine Franklin had a little over 2000 followers on Instagram but for the American, this could be the opportunity of a lifetime to cause some serious ripples in the heavyweight division. The American will surely start as the underdog in this bout but hey, no one has ever said no to an underdog story. There is a lot at stake for Joshua than for Franklin and we are potentially talking about the end of Joshua’s career, should he lose. Franklin though is unlikely to be a pushover, with an impressive record of 21-1 with 14 victories earned by knockouts. So all in all, it could get difficult for either of these men on Saturday.
