Reports suggest that Postecoglou is set to depart at the conclusion of this season, irrespective of their performance in Europa

Ange Postecoglou, the current manager of Tottenham Hotspur, is reportedly on his way out of the club. This comes despite the possibility of his team winning the Europa League and potentially securing a spot in next season's Champions League.

Tottenham suffered their 18th Premier League defeat this season against Nottingham Forest, leaving them in a precarious 16th position on the table. The team is dangerously close to surpassing their club record of 19 defeats in a single Premier League campaign. However, there remains hope that they could salvage their season by clinching victory in the Europa League.

Despite these challenges, there are growing indications that Postecoglou may leave Tottenham at the end of this season regardless of how they fare in Europe. This could either be through dismissal or mutual agreement between him and the club management. The Australian coach faces a crucial test as Spurs take on Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-finals. Failure to progress or losing out to Athletic Bilbao or Manchester United in finals could result in his sacking.

Silver lining amidst challenges

If he manages to lift this trophy and maintain his second-season silverware-winning streak at clubs, it would provide an opportunity for him to exit with dignity and pride while fulfilling promises made about changing playing styles and achieving success.

Postecoglou would become Spurs’ first trophy-winning manager since Juande Ramos back in 2008 if he succeeds. Even if he falls short, he can take solace from other highly rated coaches who have found success before and after their time at Spurs.

Postecoglou has faced numerous challenges during his tenure including managing injuries within his squad while dealing with suspected internal leaks within the club. He has also had to navigate the team amidst protests against chairman Daniel Levy and owners ENIC, as well as criticism over some decision-making.

Uncertainty looms

Postecoglou's future remains uncertain. He has stated that he is unsure about his position beyond this season. However, a strong finish to the season and a Europa League victory could potentially change perceptions about his tenure. Tottenham will be cautious not to repeat Manchester United's mistake of prematurely extending Erik ten Hag’s contract only to sack him four months later after a poor start to the following season.

With chief football officer Scott Munn set to leave this summer and former Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham confirmed for appointment, there are speculations about Postecoglou's potential successors. Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva are among leading candidates according to Telegraph Sport. Mauricio Pochettino has expressed interest in returning while Brentford’s Thomas Frank is favored by technical director Johan Lange.

It remains an uncertain period for Tottenham Hotspur with their current manager Ange Postecoglou likely heading towards an exit regardless of their performance in the Europa League.
