In a significant development for sports fans, Channel 5 has secured the rights to broadcast Premier League team Crystal Palace’s play-off matches in the Europa Conference League. This move is set to provide free-to-air coverage of these crucial games, offering an exciting opportunity for both sports and betting enthusiasts.

Crystal Palace, winners of the FA Cup and Community Shield, are entering this competition following their demotion from the Europa League due to multi-club ownership rules. Known as "The Eagles," they will be facing off against Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK in a two-legged play-off on August 21 and August 28.

Peter Angell, Sunset+Vine CEO, said:

“We’re thrilled to partner with 5 again to bring the excitement of these historic matches for Crystal Palace. Our team is the best in the business of football broadcast, and we will once again be delivering the engaging viewing experience that Sunset+Vine is renowned for.”

Production by Sunset+Vine

Sunset+Vine will be responsible for producing Channel 5's coverage of these matches. With an impressive setup involving 16 cameras dedicated to match coverage and presentation, viewers can expect high-quality broadcasting.

Stephen Booth will serve as executive producer while Jamie Oakford, known for directing FIFA World Cup Finals, will lead production efforts. Alex Aljoe is set to present with former Crystal Palace player Joel Ward providing expert analysis and commentary.

The build-up for the first game at Selhurst Park - home ground of Crystal Palace - is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm ahead of an anticipated kick-off time at 8pm.

Broadcasting rights acquisition

Channel 5 managed to secure broadcasting rights because these fixtures do not form part of TNT Sports’ UEFA package. TNT Sports' package includes main competitions such as the Europa Conference League competition itself along with other prestigious tournaments like the Europa League and Champions League.

This acquisition by Channel 5 offers a unique opportunity for fans who want free access to watch their favourite teams compete in key matches without needing a subscription service or premium sports package.

This development marks an exciting time for football fans across Europe. With the combination of Channel 5's free-to-air coverage and Sunset+Vine's high-quality production, viewers can look forward to an engaging and immersive football experience.
