Ziggo Sport, the renowned Dutch pay-television network owned by telecoms operator Vodafone Ziggo, has successfully secured exclusive broadcasting rights in the Netherlands for the men’s Africa Cup of Nations 2024 matches. This prestigious soccer tournament is recognized as the continent's premier national teams’ competition.

The deal was struck with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which governs football on the African continent. As part of this agreement, Ziggo Sport will air both editions of AFCON across its linear channel, Ziggo Go app, and Ziggo Sport Totaal platform.

The coverage of AFCON 2024 will take place from January 13th to February 14th. The tournament will take place in Ivory Coast and will feature fierce competition among the top 24 teams from Africa. Originally scheduled for 2023, this edition was postponed by a year due to extreme weather conditions in Ivory Coast. The subsequent edition in 2025 will take place in Morocco during mid-year aligning it with other national team tournament schedules.

Ziggo Sports director, Marcel Beerthuizen, said:

“AFCON is a great tournament with spectacular matches that fans enjoy and that is closely followed by many people in the Netherlands. It is unique that two editions take place in a row [in consecutive years]. It is a wonderful addition to our already extensive football offering.”

The upcoming tournaments promise an exciting lineup featuring several well-known former English Premier League players such as Ziyech, Mazraoui, Amrabat from Morocco; Haller from Ivory Coast; Kudus from Ghana; and Onana from Cameroon. International stars like Salah (Egypt), Osimhen (Nigeria), Hakimi (Morocco) and Mané (Senegal) are also set to compete for what is considered one of Africa's most prestigious prizes.

In the Netherlands, Ziggo Sport holds the rights to almost every top league, from La Liga to Serie A

This new acquisition adds significantly to Ziggo Sport’s extensive soccer portfolio which already includes top-tier leagues and competitions across Europe such as Spain’s LaLiga and the Copa del Rey, Serie A and Coppa d’Italia, Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League and Croky Cup, France’s Ligue 1, England’s FA Cup, the German DFB-Pokal, the Portuguese Primeira Liga, the Turkish Super Lig, and the Scottish Premiership.

Ziggo Sport also holds rights to UEFA's pan-European club competitions including Champions League matches, Europa League and Conference League. Additionally, it covers qualifiers as well as main events for Nations League national teams competitions.

This move by Ziggo Sport not only strengthens its position in sports broadcasting but also offers Dutch sports fans an opportunity to enjoy one of Africa's most exciting football tournaments.
