Live streaming platform achieves 20m viewers across group stage of the women's UCL this season

More than 20 million viewers live streamed the group stages of the Women's UEFA Champions League on live streaming platform DAZN this season, shattering previous records.

Matches from the opening stage of the competition were made available free-to-air on the over-the-top online broadcasting giant.

The group stage concluded in December 2022 and these viewing figures which have now been revealed will bring smiles to the faces of all stakeholders in the women's game.

The competition is now in its quarter final stage, with all four ties remarkably poised at 1-0 following the first legs. The second legs will take place next week on Wednesday 29 March and Thursday 30 March.

Roma will look to overturn their 1-0 deficit against Barcelona next Wednesday, while Arsenal will hope to do the same at home to Bayern Munich.

The following day, Wolfsburg will attempt to close out their tie at home to Paris Saint-Germain, as Chelsea face an uphill battle to defend their 1-0 lead over current champions Lyon, who remain the most successful club in the competition's history by some distance.

DAZN expectant of even greater numbers for UWCL

DAZN will expect to build on these very promising figures as the latter stages of the competition continue.

The global live streaming platform partnered with UEFA back in 2021 to become the worldwide home of the UEFA Women's Champions League, with the only territories excluded from this deal being China and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

DAZN Vice President of Women’s Sports, Andrea Ekblad, said:

“As we move into the knockout stages of this elite competition and continue the second year of DAZN’s broadcasting partnership, the audience growth has been impressive, and the figures speak for themselves. We want to continue to drive as many global audiences as possible and are on a mission to be the home of women’s football.”

On the back of such exciting viewing figures for the competition's group stage, executives at DAZN will be confident of posting more fantastic numbers as the tournament unfolds.

The final of the competition, which is set to take place from the Philips Stadion, home of Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven, on June 3rd, will be earmarked as an opportunity to shatter more records.

The final of last season's UEFA Women's Champions League drew a record breaking 3.6 million global cumulative viewers, and DAZN will hope to make history again this time around, as popularity for the women's game continues to grow.
