Viaplay will debut its football package in August, with TV 2 launching a similar offering in the autumn

In a significant development for football fans, streaming service Viaplay and commercial TV station TV 2 have entered into a new partnership. The collaboration aims to share several sports rights, thereby making them accessible to viewers on both platforms.

The agreement between Viaplay and TV 2 covers matches from LaLiga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, The FA Cup, League Cup, Toppserien (Norway's top professional women's football league), international fixtures as well as the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Conference League. This means that more than 3,000 football matches per year will be made widely available to a broader audience across Norway.

This partnership marks an exciting era in sports broadcasting by providing extensive coverage of various leagues and tournaments. It also signifies an important step towards enhancing viewer experience by offering diverse content across multiple platforms.

Launch timeline

Viaplay is set to launch its new football package in August while TV 2 plans to follow suit later in the autumn. This timeline ensures that fans won't miss out on any action from their favorite leagues or teams.

The upcoming launch of these packages will provide sports enthusiasts with comprehensive access to high-profile games throughout the year. Whether it's catching up with LaLiga or keeping track of developments in Bundesliga or Ligue 1 - fans can now look forward to enjoying all these matches at their convenience.

Olav T. Sandnes, CEO of TV 2, said:

“For us as a Norwegian public broadcaster to remain competitive in the future, collaboration with other broadcasters is essential. We were very pleased with the agreement we reached with Viaplay earlier this year on sharing winter sports and handball rights. This new collaboration on selected football rights is a natural continuation of that,”

Win for fans

This partnership between Viaplay and TV 2 is indeed a win for sports fans - particularly those who enjoy football. With over three thousand matches set to be broadcasted annually across different platforms, viewers can enjoy unparalleled access like never before.

Moreover, this move also caters well to sports betting enthusiasts who rely heavily on live broadcasts for their wagering decisions. With more games available for viewing, they can make more informed bets based on real-time game developments.

This partnership is not just a significant milestone in sports broadcasting but also a testament to the growing demand for accessible and diverse sports content among viewers. As Viaplay and TV 2 gear up to launch their respective football packages, fans across Norway can look forward to an exciting season of football ahead.
