Boxing world champion, Tyson Fury, and AC Milan legend, Zlatan Ibrahimovic are reportedly considering a takeover of Morecambe FC. The ambitious project is said to include plans for a Netflix documentary inspired by the success story of Wrexham’s rise.
The duo first discussed the project while filming a World Cup advert in Poland. Their friendship blossomed during Ibrahimovic's tenure at Manchester United. Recently, they were together in Warsaw shooting a commercial linked to Fury's Furocity brand. According to reports from The Sun, their conversation quickly veered towards the future of Morecambe FC and the possibility of taking control over this recently-relegated National League club. A proposed Netflix documentary titled 'Rise of Morecambe' is also believed to be part of their ambitious plan. This idea seems heavily influenced by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac's successful venture with Wrexham. Both Fury and Ibrahimovic believe that their global profile could help generate similar attention around the Lancashire club.
Fury further fueled speculation when he posted an image on social media alongside manager Spencer Brown in front of a private jet with an intriguing caption: "Come fly with me! A few days on business. Big news incoming."
Ibrahimovic added fuel to these rumors by posting images from Warsaw alongside Fury while referencing an August 1 date in Dublin.
Existing ties between Morecambe FC & Tyson Fury
Morecambe already has strong ties with Tyson Fury as his main training facility is based at Mazuma Stadium - owned by the club - which he purchased in 2020. The site also houses the Tyson Fury Foundation making this reported takeover interest seem like a logical next step for him. On another note, Ibrahimovic retired from football in 2023 and has since moved into media work. A role in club ownership would mark his biggest move in football since ending his playing career.
While there has been no official confirmation of a bid yet, the speculation continues to grow following the pair’s recent public appearances and social media activity. If discussions progress, Fury and Ibrahimovic could become the latest high-profile names to invest in lower-league football.
Their involvement would likely place Morecambe under a major spotlight both on and off the pitch, especially with a documentary project reportedly already being discussed. This proposed takeover could significantly raise Morecambe’s global profile if it progresses, particularly given the worldwide attention generated by Wrexham’s rise under Reynolds and Mac. Sports fans should keep an eye out for potential big news regarding this ambitious non-league takeover project by Tyson Fury and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
