Tottenham sporting director, Johan Lange, has hinted that interim manager Igor Tudor could potentially stay on as the club's manager beyond this season. This comes after a recent press conference where Lange faced the UK media and discussed the club's decision to turn to Tudor despite his lack of Premier League experience.
Lange explained that while Tudor may not have extensive Premier League experience, he is no stranger to mid-season arrivals and difficult positions. This adaptability and resilience are crucial traits for any manager stepping into a challenging situation such as Tottenham’s current predicament.
Tottenham sporting director, Johan Lange, said:
"We interviewed a few (interim) candidates. Igor impressed us very, very much in the interview. If you come in here on the Monday and you are playing at the weekend, you need to build relationships with the players immediately. You need to come in to build relationships but of course assess the style of the club immediately. He has shown that with great success, not only once but a few times, to come into that.
"That is one of the reasons why we believe he is the best candidate here now but of course also with his reputation and what he's done in his career. Of course if things go well, he could be here for a long time.”
However, it won't be an easy task for Tudor. He will be without at least 11 players for Sunday's visit of rivals Arsenal, adding another layer of complexity to his role.
Future of Tottenham’s management
Despite these challenges, there is still a possibility that if things go well under Tudor’s leadership, his interim position could become permanent. However, Lange did not rule out the search for a new permanent boss in the summer either.
The main objective now is steering Tottenham away from a potential humiliating relegation. While Lange declined to discuss specifics about their managerial search or whether former boss Mauricio Pochettino would be considered in their summer shortlist, he did provide some insight into what they're looking for in their next leader. Lange confirmed that they will target a manager with a possession-based style of play come summer time. This follows after Thomas Frank failed to truly win over Spurs' fanbase with his pragmatic and direct brand of football which didn’t resonate well with fans.
This suggests that Tottenham are keen on changing their approach on the field moving forward - aiming towards more control over games through maintaining possession rather than relying solely on direct attacks. While the future of Tottenham's management remains uncertain, it is clear that the club is looking to make significant changes both in terms of leadership and style of play. Whether Tudor will be part of these long-term plans or not will largely depend on his performance in the coming months.
